On #WorldMeditationDay, we want to bust some myths on the magic of meditation…
⓵ ‘Meditation is about not thinking’
The aim of meditation is not to stop thinking. It is to be more aware of thinking, so that our thoughts don’t control us.
② ‘You learn how to be “good” at meditation.’
There is no right or wrong way to meditate. It’s called a practice because we are working on strengthening a skill of both ‘open monitoring and focused attention’. Think of it as an opportunity to practice a new way of responding to your thoughts and emotions.
③ ‘Meditation takes hours’
There is no minimum or maximum amount of time you should meditate for. People can benefit from five minute meditation breaks.
