Today is #InternationalNurseDay and after this past year, we could not be more grateful for the incredible work that our nurses do on the daily 🙏🏼

We chatted to Anna recently – who moved in with us last year – about her time at Mason & Fifth as she worked on the frontline…

✨ How important was it to experience a calm living space that promotes work-life balance when you have such a hectic job?

Living at Mason & Fifth during the peak of the pandemic was an absolute lifeline. My landlady had forced me to vacate my previous room because of my exposure to Covid-19 at the hospital and the risk it posed for her, so I was left without a place to live for some time.

I reached out to many people and as soon as Ben heard my story, Mason & Fifth welcomed me with open arms. Living within a 5 minute walk from the hospital within such a wonderfully curated space made what could have been an awful pandemic experience into the best experiences I could have asked for.

✨ What elements of your job are the most rewarding?

My job involves interacting with cancer patients in what could be their last moments of life. The trials we offer give them one last chance for recovery.

The emotional toll can be heavy but the satisfaction and most rewarding aspect is seeing our treatments work and change the life of those who are so close to the end.

I also worked on the Oxford covid vaccine trial and in intensive care wards caring for covid patients across both waves – being able to help with such a globally reaching problem felt incredibly gratifying.

✨ What is your favourite Mason & Fifth memory?

The community aspect – even during peak pandemic – was wonderful. Nick, the building manager was my guardian angel! Once lockdown began to relax, I didn’t want to leave…so I ended up staying much longer than initially planned.

✨ What does living well mean to you?

Living well to me means feeling well holistically. Making sure I’m living in balance is vital for my mental wellbeing. Although cliché, good sleep, good food and good company are what keep me happy and sane!
