We were on the lookout for a place to work from Leh and Gutur house turned out to be just the perfect option.

Reachability: The place is hardly 5 mins from the market if you have a bike yet away from the hustle and bustle of the main market area.

Accommodation: It houses dorms as well as private rooms. We stayed in a private room which was spacious enough for 2 people with a large attached private bathroom. We loved the minimalist room decor and setup. The bathroom geyser ensures 24×7 hot water supply. Gutur also has a couple of common areas that double up as coworking spaces. We were also provided with laptop tables in our room.

Connectivity: As in the rest of Ladakh, only Jio and Airtel postpaid will work (as of July 2013). We never faced any issues with the in-house Wi-Fi or power. Wi-Fi connectivity was strong enough for work, audio and video meetings.

Food: They have an in-house kitchen with lots of Indian and continental options. The quality and quantity are both excellent. They also have a couple of partner restaurants in Leh from where you can order food.

Final thoughts: It was a terrific experience and we had no complaints. Ravi bhai who manages the place was extremely accommodating and helpful. He was really cool and helpful throughout our stay and ensured that we were comfortable. He also helped us get a scooter on rent (in fact accompanied me to get it from the market). Gutur is an excellent option if you’re looking to working from Leh or otherwise.
