Review of RisingSoul Retreat

Angela Hayes

I had an uncomfortable stay here in July. I stayed here for a month so there are too many issues to write about without an entire essay, but to summarize: what was advertised on the website and what was actually on offer here differed greatly. One of the biggest issues was that the place was advertised for digital nomads but there weren't basics like desks or functioning internet and any time it was brought it to the owners' attention by guests they were just told "nobody has ever complained about this before". The owner did acquire a new building in middle of the month but this space was advertised on the website as already being available prior to permission even being attained. The lack of facilities for digital nomads also affected the other non digital nomad guests who sometimes had no use of the kitchen space or meditation room as people were working from there. I will give the owner the benefit of the doubt and not assume blatant disregard for guests but I would suggest that actually listening to their experiences and feedback instead of dismissing it would be beneficial for everyone. It would also be beneficial to take into consideration that volunteers who are relying on you for a place to stay and positive feedback on their Workaway profiles to continue travelling with free accommodation are unlikely to always give you honest feedback about their experiences. One positive from this place is that the yoga and meditation were great (minus the wasps nest in the yoga barn).
