I had a truly wonderful trip to Montanita in 2022 where I spent several unforgettable nights at Casa del Sol. I've never been to a hostel that has such a welcoming, family atmosphere--when you stay there, you are part of the community. The location is incredible--very close to the surf break, and walking distance to the town (yet far enough so you can actually get some sleep). You can surf, party, or just relax--there is great programming there, from sushi-making nights to yoga classes. I have many fond memories of the beautiful lobby, with its many Buddha statues; its bar, where I spent many fond hours hanging out with new friends; and its staff, especially the bartenders, who made me feel at home--I still love all of you: Lauti, Franko, Jackson, Athena, Sandra, and Livingston, as well as the owner, Tamara. Anyone from any nation looking to find a lovely, peaceful, and interesting spot in Ecuador would do well to go to Casa del Sol!
