Allow the chaos. Stay present. The body will calm. ⠀ When I first get into the ice bath, everything in me panics. The breath goes short. The body wants to brace, tense, escape. That’s the nervous system firing. Fight or flight. ⠀ Most people meet that by gritting their teeth and powering through. Forcing their way to the end. ⠀ That’s not what I’m doing. ⠀ I’m not fighting the cold. I’m allowing it. Feeling it fully. Staying with my breath. Moving slowly and consciously instead of clamping down. ⠀ And you can see what happens. The panic settles. The breath deepens. The body stops bracing. By the end, I’m not enduring the cold. I’m at peace in it. ⠀ The body always calms when you stop fighting what you’re feeling. But you have to actually feel it first. You can’t think your way calm. You can’t force your way calm. You have to allow the chaos to move through you while staying present with it. ⠀ The cold isn’t the real test. Life is. The hard conversation. The setback. The moment everything in you wants to react. ⠀ This is just where you train the skill. Allow what you’re feeling. Stay present.
