My wife and I came to Algarve for the first time in October 2021. We picked up our rental car at Faro airport with nothing more planned for our two weeks than the first 3 nights at Calçada Guesthouse. We enjoyed it (and Tavira) so much we extended one more night. Wonderful hosts who were very nice and interesting to talk with, lovely breakfast served at the roof terrace. Great tips for restaurants in Tavira. You need to park your car a few hundred meters away the narrow streets, but that was no problem for us, and the driving instructions worked perfectly.
