This must be one of the world's best digital nomad coliving places. Yes, the logistics are great - you're in the heart of Bansko, minutes away from the gondola, restaurants, supermarkets, great coffee, bars and killer mountain hiking trails. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, there's a well-stocked honesty bar, lots of space to work in and a professional-level kitchen. But it's the sense of authentic welcome that makes it truly exceptional - James and Dani run this place with such a genuine human (and canine) warmth - as well as plenty of wit, intelligence and practical support - that they seem to naturally attract people who are similarly delightful. Great place, absolutely lovely people.

Avalon is a magical place. When I first arrived, they told me that everyone always comes back. I didn’t quite understand it after just five minutes. But after an amazing month, I returned for two more months, and later again for another two months. Dani and James are wonderful and make you feel completely at home. The place is super cozy, the rooms are very comfortable, the kitchen is fully equipped, and everything is just a stone’s throw away, the town center, the Sunday market, the mountains, and nature is right there. The atmosphere is amazing, I made so many friends, and even found my boyfriend there! I can’t wait to come back!

The Hotel Avalon is an amazing coliving. I immediately felt at home. The massive industrial kitchen to cook from is great, and the large cozy shared space is so nice to relax in and socialize. The owners are really friendly and helpful and their dogs are real sweet. I stayed for over half a year and absolutely loved my time there. I can't recommend it enough!

Literally home away from home. The location and premises are as good as it gets; just a short walk from everything: cafés, restaurants, hiking trails, and the Gondola area. The interior is cozy and welcoming, and the rooms are spacious. Each room comes with a comfortable desk and office chair, perfect for work, while the shared spaces offer a warm, communal vibe, and the company of their sweet doggies roaming around (each has its own character and they're all lovely). The sauna, jacuzzi, and sunny terrace are a plus. But as great as the place is, what really makes Avalon special are the people. James and Danny aren’t just the faces of Avalon, they’re beautiful humans who put real heart into building a sense of community and making sure everyone feels at home. When a place is run by great people, everything else follows. Heads-up: no one comes here just once.

People don’t usually come here only once. That says a lot about what James and Dani have created here. Most of us nomads keep coming back - in the winter, in the summer, or in the quieter off seasons - which creates a nice family feeling over the years. Avalon is everything you could want if you’re looking for a coliving space with a beautiful sense of community and a real homy feeling. James and Dani are incredibly helpful and genuinely passionate about hosting, you can feel how much they care about the people and the place itself. The room had everything I needed, the kitchen was fully equipped, laundry machines were available on site, and the living room was just super cozy, with a fireplace and a great vibe. There’s a self-service bar, reliable internet, and some adorable furry friends around to make it feel extra cozy and welcoming. The location is great too: you'll be right in the heart of Bansko, a short walk to the gondola, supermarket, restaurants, bars… basically everything you need is right there. I absolutely loved my stay at Avalon and I’m already looking forward to coming back. Thank you :)

Super coliving experience. The team does an Amazing job of curating a great group of folks staying there and it really feels like a warm family location. I have colived around the world and this place stands out. It is a dog lover's dream, cozy, atmospheric fireplace and if you come at the start of the season around Christmas time, it feels like you checked into a scene of a Hallmark Channel movie 🤗. There is plenty of room to be as social as you like, very easy to stay here as an ambivert too. Enjoyed my time immensely and glad I made the cut (wink to Dani and James). Give it a go! Best coliving I stayed in! James and Danny really make it a home for people staying there. It's cosy, comfy, it's small enough that you make friends really easily and have a real community, while it's big enough for everyone to have it's own space. For nomads who don't have a home, this feels like one. I can't recommend it enough! On the practical side: All rooms have their own bathrooms and desks, plus you've got the entire ground floor you can work in, as well as the courtyard in the summer. Internet is super fast. It's nice and warm in the winter and there is a sauna in the basement. "Industrial" kitchen available so for people missing a proper kitchen to cook in, this one has everything! (even a Tandoor oven!) and a self -service bar. Supermarket 5 minutes walk away, location right between the gondola and the old town so easy to walk pretty much everywhere. 5/5 would stay again (and as a matter of fact, I already have!)

The Avalon is fantastic! For me it's the best coliving space in town with about 15 units for digital nomads (and those who aspire to become so). Danny and James are doing a great job that best of all you never want to leave again. It has ample space in the lobby where you can work during the day, also the rooms offer a desk and chair, and the internet connection is very good. The communal kitchen offers everything you need with a space for your personal things. The combination of all of that creates a unique community experience that I was part of for almost one year altogether. I can't be grateful enough for all the great moments I had there - and heaven sees if this story might not actually not have a couple of more chapters. I wouldn't be surprised.

Fantastic place! Makes you wanna live there for...forever! The whole place is extremely well taken care of, very friendly people, super clean and the view from the room was honestly the best! I want to come back in winter for snowboarding. This is just a very special, rare kind of accomodation. The terrace is perfectly built, lot of sun and cozy seating but also you can work in the shadow at the tables. Many boardgames and super cozy living room. I honestly can't wait to come back! I was very lucky to have been able to spend my first month in Bansko at the legendary Avalon and I am so glad I did. The welcoming and family-like atmosphere at the Avalon causes experienced travellers to return year after year - this was great for me, as living with so many Bansko veterans allowed me to very quickly get invited too all the best bars, restaurants and activities that Bansko has to offer. Living with so many like minded travellers allows you to build relationships so quickly - from the moment you arrive there’s always a board game happening, a coffee brunch to join, a group headed off to ski or a bus booked for the next hot springs evening. That said, we all need down time and if you’d rather just chill without being a social butterfly for a bit then that is also completely respected. Danny & James, who run the Avalon with so much love, very quickly become your Bansko fairy godparents. It was lovely to be part of their Christmas & New Year during my stay. What I really can’t get over is the value for money. The Avalon provides a next level experience for not much more than you would pay for an apartment. This does mean that there is huge demand to get in to the Avalon with some regulars booking their room almost a year ahead, so definitely do not delay making booking enquiries the moment you decide on your trip to Bansko. It would be easy for James to add 50% to his prices and still sell out with the interest there is in Avalon - it’s a huge testament to his character that he prefers to deliver excellent value and an authentic space instead. Without question, the next time I am in Bansko, the Avalon will be my first stop. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Co-living: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐|I've been in this coliving for several months, and I like it so much that I consider it my true home. From the moment I stepped in, I was greeted with warm welcomes from both the staff and residents; the management has put an incredible effort into creating a welcoming and inclusive environment organizing events and activities, ensuring that the space is always clean and well-maintained and being there for everything their guests need. The location is amazing: 15 minutes walk from the gondola through the main street of Bansko, Pirin Street, and 5 minutes away from the city center. The rooms are cozy and comfortable, with a desk in every room for people who need more privacy for work. The internet speed is great both from the rooms and the common spaces, which are well-designed, spacious, and well-equipped with everything you need to work, relax, or socialize. Whether you're looking to cook a meal in the kitchen, watch a movie in the lounge, or work on your projects in the shared office, this coliving space has got you covered. This means of course I would highly recommend this coliving to anyone looking for a comfortable, affordable, and welcoming home away from home. It truly is an amazing place to live!|Restaurant: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐|Once per week, there's a curry night: the food is delicious and the buffet is huge and you can eat as much as you want. The management frequently organizes other events such as ribs night, Venezuelan night, cocktail night, and rum tasting... Never been disappointed, the quality of the meat and veggies are superb, and the choice of cocktails and liquors is refined. James will explain the details of what you're drinking, sharing and transmitting his passion for high-quality food and drinks.

This place was recommended by friends when I was planning to stay for a month in Bansko. I'm so glad I went for it! James and Danny made me feel at home (which is so valuable when you're a nomad constantly traveling). The place is very clean, and the co-living guidelines make it comfortable and easy to live with the other guests. Avalon has a cozy living area, an awesome well equipped kitchen, and a charming outdoors area. The private rooms are perfect: well lit, quiet if you need to focus on work, and spacious. The location is central, and in a quiet and safe street.||If you're looking for the best co-living space to fully experience Bansko the digital nomads' hub, then definitely go for Avalon.

"He's an eternally happy soul, isn't he?".||It was a throw-away observation about one of my fellow guests from James, one half of Hotel Avalon's marvellous management double-act, James and Dani.||Without pause I replied "Yes, there's quite a few of us here aren't there?"||And that got me thinking... Everyone wants to be happy, but it seems so few people genuinely are... For any period of time at least. Myself included.||But everyone at Hotel Avalon has been happy. Sure, the hotel is sited in a mountain wonderland. The food is great and the beer is cheap. There are log fires and friendly dogs, but it goes deeper than that.||Happiness abounds here. This place feels like home and that is to the total credit of James and Dani.||Our job as guests was easy. We just had to be||picking up what they were putting down, feeling what they were dealing, drinking what they were thinking and jiving what they were conniving.||What they've created is special and I'll miss it.||Till next time...||Tunnocks World Tour

If you ask the average Bulgarian what curry is they probably won't be able to answer this to you - the reason is that Indian cuisine is not very wide spread or popular in Bulgaria at all. But if every Bulgarian had the chance to try the curry at Avalon, I'm sure the popularity of the dish will undoubtedly increase! James makes some of the best curry I've ever had, and luckily for me with a good selection of vegetarian and vegan options! The chickpea and lentil curries were exclusively amazing, and we only wish they would have curry nights more often! With that said, at the moment Avalon runs curry nights only on Thursdays and you need to make sure you reserve your spot in advance - whether that's for takeaway or dine-in visit. Unfortunately, during our time in Bansko the curry was only takeaway but the portion that is delivered to you in a box is more than enough to split into two meals! With two words - absolutely delicious!

What could you possibly expect from a hotel being run as "just a hobby"? I have been stranded in the high winter of freezing cold Bansko for over two months due to Covid restrictions, without possibility to go home. James, the owner, has turned away multiple long-term booking inquiries, so I could extend my stay by another two weeks, then another week, then one more week, then some more days, until I could finally go home. To make me feel better with the nuisance of the uncertainty of my situation, James kept inventing bogus laws presumably forbidding him of kicking out a guest in need due to "the Corona situation". Seems to me more like some real medieval British chivalry B.S! Apart from running the hotel James has more "hobbies", most prominently: cooking and baking. About his famous curry and ribs nights you can read elsewhere (this is how and why I came to Avalon in the first place). For my critique of the complimentary baking see attached photos. For the price of two nights in e.g. the f***ing Kempinski Hotel Grand Arena (a mistake I made), you could stay one full month in Avalon. This includes heating, so its about half the price of renting and heating your own apartment. And indeed my room in Avalon was the single place in Bansko where I was not cold. I even had to turn off the heating at some point, and it was still literally the warmest I had. My only issue while staying there was that there was no microwave. So James bought a microwave. What could you possibly expect from a hotel being run as "just a hobby" indeed? You can expect it to be your home <3

I havent stayed here, but having been in bansko for 2 months I have had takeaway from avalon hotel on a few occasions, and I cant speak highly enough about it. The authenticity of the food is amazing, and everything is cooled sonwell. The curry package is fantastic...but I must give special mention to the bbq rib package...them ribs were out of this world. Now I know my food, being a chef myself, and having worked in the smoke at the Stafford, Dorchester, Ritz and a few places abroad, and owning 2 restaurants now...i can honestly say the guy cooking this food is brilliant. I cant wait to get back to bansko next winter just to eat this food again. By far the best food i have had whilst here in bansko. Thanks very much

הצוות מאוד מסביר פנים, נכונות לעזור. החדרים ברמה של אכסניה- מקלחת ללא וילון כאשר מתקלחים מרטיב את כל חדר האמבטיה. רמת הניקיון גם בינונית - יש אבק מתחת למיטות... ארוחת הבוקר פשוטה מאוד ואין הרבה מבחר, שוב בסיסי ביותר. לסיכום מומלץ למי שיש לו תקציב נמוך

Πολύ καλό ξενοδοχείο, κοντά στο κέντρο της πόλης, καθαρό, πάρα μα πάρα πολύ ζεστό, οι ιδιοκτήτες ευγενικότατοι, πολύ καλό πρωινό. Δωρεάν μετακίνηση προς τις γόνδολες, και γενικά το συστήνω σε όσους θέλουν ενα ήρεμο και οικονομικό ξενοδοχείο.

Chambre un peu démodée( j'ai du mal avec la moquette) mais propre. Sdb clean aussi. |Le personnel correct. |Petit déjeuner varié. Les crêpes au miel sont bonnes. :-)|J'ai eu une chambre mansardée avec une petite fenêtre. Pas de vue de fou sur le massif mais bon c'est pas le plus important :-)|Peu de bruit malgré le mariage au rêve de chaussé :-)|

Δωμάτια σε στύλ παραδοσιακό, ξύλινα και πολύ περιποιημένα. Η καθαριότητα είναι πολύ καλή. Ο ιδιοκτήτης ευγενέστατος και εξυπηρετικότατος. Το ξενοδοχείο βρίσκεται πολύ κοντά στο κέντρο και λίγο πιο μακρυά απο τη γόνδολα. Γενικά η ποιότητα σε σχέση με τη τιμή είναι άριστη..

Words just fail me to describe the hospitality and warmth our party received from James & Vania. We visited the hotel on 2004, for the first time and since then it is our only choice when we visit Bansko. Rooms are warm, fitness room is great but most of all James just prepares the BEST DINNER in Bansko. Highly recommended if you are looking a home away from home, good rates and amazing food.

Το ξενοδοχειο αυτο ειναι μια οικογενειακη επιχειρηση ,που διοικειτε απο ενα υπεροχο ζευγαρι ,που ειναι παντα προθυμο και προπαντων με καλη διαθεση και χαμογελο να σας εξυπηρετηση .Τα θετικα του ειναι η καθαριοτητα ,το πρωινο,το lobby,το wifi.Τολμω να πω ,λογω γιατι κανω συχνες επισκεψεις στο μπανσκο, οτι ειναι το καλυτερο ξενοδοχειο που εχω επισκεφτει.Επισης θελω να πω ενα μεγαλο ΕΥΧΑΡΙΣΤΩ για την υπεροχη διαμονη !!!

Για άλλη μια φορά η επιλογή μου για διαμονή ήταν αυτό το οικογενειακό ξενοδοχείο με τους πάντα φιλικούς ιδιοκτήτες του!Βρίσκεται στο κέντρο του χωριού για άμεση πρόσβαση για φαγητό στις ταβέρνες και για βόλτες με τα πόδια σε όλο το χωριό! Το πρωινό αξιοπρεπές, όπως επίσης και τα φαγητά που σερβίρονται το βράδυ!'Εχει χαμάμ, τζακούζι, σπα! Μη ξεχάσετε να ζητήσετε από τον James να σας βοηθήσει για τη μεταφορά σας από το ξενοδοχείο προς την γόνδολα,όπως επίσης και να τον ρωτήσετε να σας ενημερώσει για τα καλύτερα αξιοθέατα του χωριού! Με δωρεάν πάρκιγκ, ασύρματο internet και σίγουρα η πιο καλή και οικονομική λύση για όλους! Το συνιστώ ανεπιφύλακτα

Τα καλά ξενοδοχεία δεν χρειάζονται πολλά λόγια. Επαγγελματισμός με φιλική εξυπηρέτηση, καθαριότητα, πολύ καλή σχέση τιμής-ποιότητας και κοντά στο κέντρο της κωμόπολης. Ο ιδιοκτήτης είναι Άγγλος, κάτι που σημαίνει ότι το ξενοδοχείο λειτουργεί με Αγγλικές προδιαγραφές. Αξιοπρεπές.

Vi besökte Bansko för att vandra i Pirinbergen. James och hans personal var fantastiskt trevliga och hjälpsamma med att boka transpport, ge lokala tips, berätta om livet i Bulgarien m.m. Vi hade det stora rummet överst och det var rent och fräscht med stor säng och kylskåp. Vi hade egen balkong och utsikt över Bansko. Frukost åt vi gärna i den mysiga trädgården utomhus. Det fanns yoghurt, müsli, bröd, juice, lokal korv och ost samt rikligt med färsk frukt. Vi återvänder gärna till hotell Avalon och rekommenderar det varmt.

Estancia el 7 y 8 de Septiembre de 2011. En nuestro viaje por Bulgaria, ha sido uno de los mejores hoteles que hemos visitado. Todo el personal ha sido muy atento y con ganas de ayudar para que nuestra estancia fuera lo mas comoda posible. La zona donde esta el hotel es muy tranquila y cerca del centro de Bansko. Buena habitación y buen desayuno...y el precio de la habitacion con desayuno, muy economico.

Parti avec des amis pour une semaine de ski hors pistes, nous avons trouvé dans cet hotel non seulement un tres bon confort tel que décrit mais surtout un accueil extraordinaire par James et son équipe. James connait aussi bien les montagnes alentour que ses habitants, et il se met en quatre pour que vos journées soient réussies. Son aide nous a été précieuse, Je n'envisagerai pas d'aller ailleurs lors d'un prochain séjour.
