After spending 7 weeks at Maraya, it was time for me to leave...I almost felt like I was leaving home as I got into the car on the way to the airport.
Lucca, one of the owners, is a very thoughtful and chilled person. On my first day at Maraya, he was more than happy to offer to take me to the grocery store and help me run a few errands. During my stay, he also offered to change my room to a better one with a hammock, which I definitely made the most of! He also gave me some money off some of my stay as well as, a free ride back to the airport. I was really grateful for all of this.
The house and surrounding areas... amazing. Not only is there space to work in various locations inside and out, the grounds offer enough space for moments of solitude too. Whether it's the hammock in the treehouse, the sofa at the back of the garden or the rooftop. Each location was perfect for catching the sun, moon and the stars. I had countless evenings where I was able to catch shooting stars too! The rooms and bathrooms are well maintained and cleaned to a good standard, issues are dealt with quite quickly so that's also good. The place is safe. There's an outdoor gym area too.
The volunteers, friendly, helpful, kind, thoughtful and so generous in nature. Each and every single one brought something amazing to the community whether it was lessons communal dinners, Wine, hikes, yoga, spiritual healing sessions, breathwork, surfing and more. Bruna (the rock), Laura, Elisa, Shannon, Fernando, Matûs, Jakub, Cande, DJ Nat...
Biodiversity in the household is amazing, you may find a duck in the swimming pool, baby lizards hiding in the hat in your room, cute little jumping spiders, a wild cat who I'm pretty sure has a split personality and an interesting bird that likes to fly around in the evenings. Then there's the abundance of fruit and veg that grows in the garden, passion fruit, mango, bananas, lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and one of my favourite plants (Lucca, you know which one it is) right at the back!
The internet is fantastic, there's a printer as well, groceries on delivery if needed, shops and beaches nearby, short walking distance to the town. Tenerife is a special Island.
Thank you to the Maraya community for all the wonderful dinners, the love, the kindess, the laughter, the music and more. I walked away with so many new memories and new friends.
