Absolutely loved our stay here. I was in the dorm room first then moved into a double room with my partner. This is an incredible hostel in literal paradise. You can see the ocean from the upstairs kitchen & hang spot. Tom & Liz are so hospitable and we felt so welcome and cared for. The place is kept super clean & tidy by the amazing staff. They do epic surf trips and have all of the local knowledge. It’s a bit of a walk from town but there’s always ways to get in, and a good walk is healthy anyway. I feel like I discovered an international secret gem. Upon arrival for a solo week and my first time in Troncones, owners Tom and Liz and their crew instantly made me feel at home. Their genuine care, friendliness, and thoughtfulness (and Liz's incredible homemade meals!) made this trip so memorable amidst my many global adventures. My private room, the grounds, and the open-air upstairs lounge/kitchen area with a beautiful view of the point break were all so clean and well-maintained on the daily (gracias, Dona Fernanda!). Also, the wi-fi and the showers are excellent! From surf trips to a boat fishing trip to a spontaneous huge hostel community meal with fresh bonitas we caught that morning—there are plenty of activities they'll help coordinate. But I also got my good fix of hammock-lounging, reading, and beachfront downtime. Troncones Point Hostel has a magic to it that will make you want to return. I'm grateful I found it to spend my birthday week there because it turned out to be one of the best I've had! Gracias, Tom and Liz.

This is my second stay at Troncones point hostel and I will be back. Beautiful, clean, and best of all great people both times. Owners, staff, and guests were all great to know. It felt safe and easy. |The location is excellent, while not right on the beach it’s a very short walk across the street to a gorgeous trial at the rocky part of the coast and maybe 5 -10 minutes around to sandy swimming/surfing beach in the bay. |Restaurants are within walking distance though a bike or car open up a lot more options. The closest small shop with some food items is about a mile away or stop in Zihjuat if you plan to cook in often. The restaurants are tasty though! |I highly recommend Troncones Point Hostel if you enjoy interacting with other travelers. It is a hostel, not a hotel, but a really nice one!

I called the owner 2x with a few questions before booking. Tom explained exactly what to expect. He & Liz were easy to become friends with. The daily housekeeping & grounds keeper were excellent. For us, the location was beautiful. The comfortable environment and interaction with other guests (a number of surfers) was a lot of fun. We invited a couple who stayed 3 of the 8 nights & had a great time especially good morning coffee (included) and found some really good restaurants. This hostel was by far one of the best ones I've ever stay. First of all, the attention from the staff was amazing (thanks a lot Nico! ) and specially Lis was very kind to me in this solo short trip. The villa is so cozy, the rooms are very clean, spacious, the common areas are perfect to relax and enter to the vibe. Also there are good recommendations of what to do around troncones, surfing is a great option. The hostel is quite close to the beach and it is perfect to see the sunset. Do yourself a huge favor and book this trip now! I had an amazing time on the Surf Safari with Tom and I can’t recommend it enough. Tom and Lizzette take care of you like you’re their oldest friends and you’ll get a truly custom tailored experience in every since of the word. The first surf session is used to analyze your current skill level. Don’t worry though, you don’t need to be Kelly Slater you just need a bit of surfing experience and you’ll be good to go! After understanding where your current skill level is, Tom then creates a whole trip for you. Besides observation he’ll ask you how aggressive you want to be on this trip. And remember it’s YOUR vacation He’ll remind you of this A LOT LOL. . So if you want to surf 3.5hrs a session 2x a day you can do that. If you want to surf 40 minutes 2x a day you can do that. If you want to relax and have some drinks and kick back that’s great! Or if you are simply there to be a vegan, recover between sessions and surf til your arms fall off, that’s fine too 😊
Your morning will start with a delicious home kicked meal from Lizzett (Tom’s wife) with Tom and your morning surf guide Evan (best surfer in town). Everyday is different, but expect fresh fruit, coffee, a main dish like huevos rancheros and side dishes like homemade pancakes. Then you will all go to the morning break. This can be by car or boat (depending on the conditions and analysis Tom did of your skills). After a killer morning session, you’ll go back to your hostel and let me tell you it’ s no ordinary hostel. The grounds are beautiful, and you’ll have a private room with your own patio. The communal kitchen is where people socialize and has amazing air flow and an ocean view of Troncones point. A short break and then Lizzette will cook you another amazing meal! After some relaxing, a stretch, nap or beer (or all the above) it’s back for an afternoon session (typically at Salidita given afternoon winds). After another session of Tom or Evan giving you great advice about where to paddle out, which way the currents go, where to take off from etc you’ll head back from some evening socializing and then out to dinner at one of the local restaurants (included in the price of your trip). It’s up to you how much partying or resting you want to, but everything is customized to YOU. So don’t be afraid to tell them EXACTLY what you want!
Halfway through the trip you have an option to take a boat to Palo Alto or to go fishing. As it was double-triple overhead I said let’s fish! And it’s the best kind fishing. Bring some drinks snacks and prepare to have the captain troll and hand you the pole once something is hooked. We saw turtles, a school of dolphins and pulled in enough bonita for fish tacos that night. There’s also a massage included on this day to help you recover from all the 2xday surf sessions!
I had an incredible time on this trip and am certainly going back. I really can’t recommend it enough and think Tom actually undersells it, but man does he over-deliver. By the time I left I felt like I had made really good friends, substantially elevated my surf fitness and had gotten an insider’s perspective replete with meeting local business owners and going to neighborhood house parties. I really can not recommend this trip highly enough!

You better make sure you read the small print! Not only is this place super expensive, but to book a room you are required to pay 50% deposit, which is huge and unheard of in Mexico. What’s worse is there’s a 30 day cancellation policy. 🤯
Me and a friend tried to cancel our rooms with 16days in advance (which is still a long time) and the owners refused to send us a penny back. They would undoubtedly have no problem filling the room and would be keeping 400 dollars of ours for not even staying. Yes I get it, it’s policy, but I work in events and with a lot of venues - and when you’re dealing directly with the owner, a policy is only as good as the will to enforce it. They were quite rude, unhelpful, and totally uncompromising which is super bad vibes.
We explained to them that the reason we wanted to cancel was because as British citizens not a single travel inssurance policy is valid (due to the FCDO not recommending travel to this area) - the owners couldn’t care less. For them it’s black and white. You know those businesses comfortable with making money from people overlooking details or falling unlucky to things like this travel inssurance situation? This is them. I would be embarrassed to run my business like this, as think the humanity and understanding is taken out of the equation.
So just make sure you know you’re happy to stay at the most sharkey point in Mexico, with selfish / solely money centred owners.
They’ve twisted our arm, and we will be going to stay because we can’t afford to lose 400$ and book somewhere else, but seriously, wanted to put this review out as soon as possible so that others might not fall into the same trap.
This is stark contrast to all the other wonderful places we’ve been staying recently, where the hosts want their guests to have a positive experience, help out and do compromise as are able to appeal to their kindness over making 400$ off some tourists. I was shocked.

Our room was cleaned every day and overall I thought it was super clean (though I cannot speak to the shared bathrooms). The vibe is super relaxed, as it's a small and tranquil hostel. You can easily walk to the beach and the Troncones Point surf break, though I would recommend getting a car if you want to explore further. It's also about a 5-min drive or 30-min walk into Troncones town which has shops and restaurants. I also recommend bringing groceries with you as there are no big markets in Troncones but there are small shops.

Die Atmosphäre war top, ich kann mich meinen Vorredner nur anschließen, es scheint interessante Leute an zu ziehen. Wie es halt häufig mit Orten ist die etwas abseits der üblichen Pfade liegen. Tom und seine Frau waren spitzen Gastgeber und bauen aktuell (stand: 20.11.2022) wohl eine fläche für Workaholics aus. Meines Erachtens der perfekte Ort dafür.

The Troncones Point Hostel was recommended to me by a local. I booked for three nights and ended up staying for weeks. It’s a magical spot, the host couple is very friendly, engaging and helpful. The spacious kitchen is fully equipped and allows you to prep own meals and keep your nutrients stored in a fridge. For the surfers, Troncones point is a short walk and the wave is visible from the Hostel. The dorms are a great price value however if you like some extra comfort, the private rooms are stunning. I'd recommend renting a scooter to get around as it's about 3-4km to the area where most of the restaurants are located. ATTN all travelers. DENGUE FEVER at Troncones Point Hostel NOW. I was staying at troncones point hostel from Nov 20 - 29th, 2018. A girl was staying below me who contracted Dengue fever and was in very bad shape, like deathly ill. Tom and Lizz did nothing to warn the other travelers about this, nor quarantined her. When I brought it up to them, explaining that it was their responsibility to inform guests that their hostal is now a high risk zone for dengue they did nothing except denounce the hard scientific evidence surrounding what a dengue fever outbreak looks like. They didn't even warn guests to apply repellant after I asked them to numerous times. Instead they made up facts about dengue and clearly didn't care about their guests well-being but rather making money. I ended up informing guests myself, all of whom were shocked by their uneducated behavior surrounding this.
Here are the facts about dengue, please do your own research if you'd like to confirm what I've thoroughly researched (I also come from a scientific background):
Incubation is between 4 days and two weeks once a mosquito with dengue bites. Once a mosquito has dengue they have it for their entire life. Mosquitoes generally stay within an acre of their birthplace for their entire life and feed on all things warm blooded up to three times a day. These facts make Troncones Point hostal a dengue outbreak high risk zone. I would stay far away from this place for a few months.
