Honestly, I can’t describe how much this place changed my life. I was working way too hard and alone on my YouTube channel beforehand, and the community at SurfBreak was simply unmatched. I had a great experience being a part of the surfbreak coliving community. I met some close friends here and made really cool memories. I wanted to move to Oahu and this was a great way to meet people and look for a place. I ended up extending my stay to 3 1/2 months because it was so fun. The place is super nice, great views of the island from the 40th floor. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. They keep the place clean and tidy multiple times a week and Dani the manager really makes you feel at home. Would highly recommend

Surfbreak has been an amazing experience from beginning to end. I stayed for 3 months and had nothing but amazing experiences to talk about. I became close to everyone that I lived with, making lifelong friends and future travel buddies! Daniela and the entire Surf Break staff are absolutely amazing people, treating everyone with kindness, compassion, and sincerity. Any maintenance issue was fixed ASAP and the place itself was cleaned quite often. There are group activities, seminars, volunteer opportunities, and workshops planned each month that bring us closer together. The island is magical and having this found family to try new things made the experience all the better. I hope to return soon!!!

Possibly one of the best decisions I’ve made in recent years was joining Surfbreak HNL. At Surfbreak, I was given an instant community— one full of people who were open-minded, loved spending time outdoors as equally indoors, and valued being of service to others and the land around them. Almost every day, there was initiative to surf, cook in the kitchen, explore other parts of the island, volunteer, or do some sort of activity together. Days would end with lively discussions in the kitchen about how our days went, our favorite moments, and what we wanted to do next. My experience was incredibly fulfilling, thanks to the people that lived there and our operations managers, Kelsey and Daniela, that worked tirelessly to make my experience as smooth as possible. I’m super thankful that even today, I continue to stay in touch with the people I befriended in both stays. When I originally was booking my stay in Hawaii, I was scared I wasn't going to like a co-living space and that it could ruin my time on the island. Surfbreak could not have proved that to be more wrong. I can talk endlessly about everything I love about Surfbreak, but my top things are the friendships I made, being a part of the community, and the endless activities that offers. I can honestly say I enjoyed every person that came through the space during my time there and some have become great friends. Not only did I enjoy getting involved in the community, but I was able to build those relationships into true friendships where I'll be visiting them in other states and even countries. Whether you surf, hike, stargaze, play chess, or anything in between, you'll find at least one other person at Surfbreak that will join you for exactly when you want to do it. Having lived alone in new cities many times, this became an invaluable experience. I would recommend living at Surfbreak to anyone that wants to be a part of a community and explore. I am already excited to go back there!

And even on the rainy days, at Surfbreak you’ll have a space to stay in and watch movies with your crew. Surfbreak HNL really is a unique place. How many places do you know which are at the top floor of a high rise, on a famous surfing island, in the middle of an island archipelago? I also really like the people who own and manage it. RJ, the founder, is a well connected guy who truly has nothing but good intentions for Surfbreak. And Dani, the manager, is one of the most electric and fun spirited person I have ever met. Finally, if you have any issues on your first stay, please let them know! They will always work with you, and make sure to do your part as you are an active contributor to there community. I travel quite a bit and have mostly have stayed in hostels or hotels- and Surfbreak is the perfect blend of both. It has the social aspect I crave when I go to a new city— the people there are incredibly welcoming and always planning events around the island. I’m a working professional and need a quiet productive place to work with strong wifi (although It sometimes would have issues, they were so quick to respond). One of the best perks about this place is the sound proof rooms. I also loved working in the kitchen with others. What surprised me the most - the bathrooms were immaculate. I was worried the bathroom situation would be a bunch of sinks and stalls in one room, but there are 6 individual bathrooms and they are cleaned constantly. Literally, the cleaning crew always seems to be there. Even with sharing these 6 bathrooms with 15-20 people, in my 4.5 months of staying at surfbreak, I never once had to wait for the bathroom. Last but not least, the staff there truly cares about every one of its members. Daniela is always running around doing everything for surfbreakers and she does it with a huge smile. She is incredibly thoughtful and generous and will go above and beyond to make every single person feel welcomed and content at surfbreak. Below are my summed up pros and cons Pros: - sound proof rooms - clean, individual bathrooms - regular cleaning of common areas - free food provided (eggs, rice, almond milk, oatmeal etc) - hostel like social environment, easy to meet people and make plans - great environment for working early hours - stunning views of Hawaii from the rooms and common area - laundry facilities on the floor with free detergent Cons: - some groups leave the kitchen messier than others. It’s just something I had to come to accept with coliving - crowd of people can vary drastically from major party animals or people who are in bed at 9pm on a Saturday. It can get cliquey, but depends on the crowd - no free parking - gym is complicated to reserve and separated by gender

I had zero expectations coming to SurfBreak but ended up leaving the place with amazing memories, life long friends and personal growth and fulfilment. My first coliving experience and for sure not my last. The two month minimum stay really encouraged to build friendships, a daily routine and explore all that Hawaii has to offer. The coliving space was set up really well so you got your own personal space in order to work during the day. But at the same time the common areas were perfect to get to know your roommates, make spontaneous after work plans, weekend activities or trips to the other islands. My best memories come from the Big Island trip, road trips to North Shore, Kailua, learning to surf and most of all the kitchen conversations with everyone. And last but not least thank you to Daniella for always taking care of us. I highly recommend everyone to experience SurfBreak at least once in a lifetime. I literally had the best summer of my life in Oahu and I stayed for 2 months at Surfbreak. It made my trip incredible and I made a ton of really good friends that I'll keep forever. It was a great way to explore Oahu as there was always someone up for doing something and we became quite a tight bunch. Writing this review from a perspective of a short term visitor. This place is great. You are given a chance to stay in the bunk room at a reasonable nightly rate. Even though you are a guest, you still get treated the same as the longer term tenant. The place is kept clean thanks to weekly cleaning service and tenants who take care after themselves. There are wide variety of amenities from workshop classes to water activities equipment you can use free of charge. Great community of people. Good leadership and group values. Beautiful location. I very much enjoyed my 2 months at Surfbreak. I rented a single bed room and stayed from mid January to mid March 2023. Communication with Surfbreak staff was very good, and I felt comfortable from the start with the application process. The community was welcoming to me when I arrived, and I ended up making some close friendships. It helps that there was simply so much to do on the island. Being able to rent one of the two Surfbreak cars (inexpensive) was also a major plus. It seemed like every other day there was an open invite to join whoever was going surfing, snorkeling, or hiking. It’s both more affordable and more fun to enjoy Hawaii when you live in community. During my stay, I never had an issue with living in close quarters with the ~20 or so surfbreakers. Quiet hours start at 10pm — weekends are a bit more lax on the rule, but still, everyone is respectful. The common area is big enough and there are enough bathrooms for this size community. Really, they planned this place out well for this sized community. But more importantly, they have built a positive culture that makes this place run smoothly. Shoutout to Daniela for her work in fostering this culture. A couple things you might like to know — you probably don’t want me just saying I HAD A GOOD TIME in various different ways — listed below: - Rooms are relatively small. I didn’t mind this at all. The rooms fit the things I had well and looked good (what more can you ask for?). They also have beautiful windows, all with terrific views. - Even though there are 20ish people and only one kitchen, I thought it worked well. Lots of people eat out, eat at different times, or prepare something simple. I generally meal prepped twice a week and prepared simple stuff for breakfast and lunch. Also nice to have the personal fridge in my room. - Ala Moana beach is the closest walk (~10 mins). The more touristy (and slightly swanky?) beach area is a 20 min walk. Great to have the public bikes, as taking them cuts the time in half. Surfbreak covers the public bike fee for you. It’s especially nice to spend sunset at the beach. Ok, that was my pretty unemotional, hopefully helpful review. Now my emotional review: COME HERE, IT’S THE BEST.

My experience at Surfbreak was unlike any other! It's not an exaggeration when I say that Surfbreak changed my life. I've traveled to many places & stayed in multiple different co-living and hostel situations, but nothing will compare to the community that I found at Surfbreak. Amenities: Surfbreak is clean, spacious, and homey. The floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room and external bedrooms were my FAV (your guests will be impressed, too :). I woke up to the sunrise over the mountains every morning, and it was a great way to start the day. There are grocery stores, rental city bikes, gyms, and a Target within walking distance, so you can easily grab what you need without a car or moped. Ala Moana is a 10-15 minute walk away as well for anyone who loves to skate, run, play volleyball, or take a stroll outside! Cleanliness: Cleaners come on-site to re-stock bathrooms & clean common spaces + monthly (or maybe it was bi-monthly) room cleanings to keep the space neat. As with any co-living situation, the maintenance of cleanliness will also be the responsibility of you and your cohort - but I was never bothered during my time here! Community: You will find friends for life here if that’s what you’re looking for! There will be a turn-around of members, so you will meet a lot of people during your time here (as a heads-up to those who may be a bit more introverted). However, the beauty of Surfbreak is that it’s not geared toward one type of person or traveler. I’m confident that anyone can and will find their community here. Because of the 2-month minimum (folx usually stay for longer), you’ll build strong connections. PLEASE DO THIS: Please take the time to get to know the local communities outside of Surfbreak and learn about Hawaiian history, culture, and language! Surfbreak sets up multiple volunteering + cultural & educational opportunities, and you should 1000% take the time to give back to the island and locals here. In Conclusion: Book your stay at Surfbreak - seriously, do it! You will not be disappointed. I loved my stay here! I unfortunately broke my knee (patella) in half after only my second week here… and everyone was so amazing in helping me with my recovery. Amazing Coliving space in Hawaii! Coliving is up and coming, which can be new to many people. As for me, it's the longest I have stayed at a coliving space. I 100% recommend spending at least 2 months at Surfbreak if you are traveling alone or with friends/companion but want to meet other people without the moving hassle. The community is wonderful and the community managers make sure that everyone has a great and safe time in Hawaii. The space is clean and they have cleaners who come frequently. The location is perfect and many of us did not need a car to do our every day needs or wants. We would rent a car for day trips to explore the island. The rooms come with everything you would need (desk, minifridge, organization, bed, linens, pillows and 2 towels. I only had to bring my work computer and clothes/shoes. Even the showers are constantly restocked with facial towels and shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Definitely an amazing community to meet people, work remotely, and explore the island.

Surfbreak was truly the answer to having an incredible Hawaii experience. Going to paradise and immediately having a sense of community made this journey beyond anything I could have ever hoped for. Traveling is a gift but it can be hard to meet people at times. With Surfbreak you are surrounded by like minded people who all thrive on this adventure we've been given. There's always something to do and people to share the thrill with. Made some life long friends that I will continue to travel and explore with. Surfbreak gives its community a lot of freedom and opportunities to see Hawaii for its true beauty. The building is on the 40th floor with the best view in the city of Waikiki. It's modern, well equipped, and professionally managed. I would absolutely stay here again and am thankful for the opportunity. Go in with an open soul and mind and you may just surprise yourself with what you discover. Thank you Surfbreak for the life changing experience.

Must stay if you're looking to explore Hawaii and live with a welcoming community of friends. RJ and Kelsey are very friendly and put a ton of love and passion into SurfBreak, really bringing the space to life and encouraging a strong community. I've liked every person staying here, they are all friendly and lively, typically working a remote job or owning their own business. It's located on one of the top floors of the building high above the other skyscrapers, so the views are the best. If you're on the edge about joining, do it you won't regret it!

After months of renting soulless craigslist condos and overpriced airbnb apartments around town, I finally found home in Honolulu at Surfbreak. As a WFH television producer I needed a serious place to cultivate my career while receiving the blessings of the island, and hopefully growing deep local roots. Everything I needed to live and work well at Surfbreak exceeded my hopes: The Internet is lightning fast, the rooms soundproofed, the AC arctic cold, the (complimentary) room cleanings thorough. Basic amenities tend to be hit and miss in the other condos in which I resided around town (four other buildings) which were also much more expensive. The views are stunning at Surbreak; world class surf breaks in walking distance as well as a great gym, top notch restaurants etc. I maintained by NYC style of living thanks to the central location. The views are spectacular, the experience smooth and luxurious, but the real joy of Surbreak is the community or Ohana (Hawaiian for family.) While I was living at Surfbreak in the penthouse of the Century Tower I made several lifelong friends from among the mix of beautiful and ambitious residents and finally found myself at home. I'll say less: 10/10

6 stars please! Where to begin? Surfbreak isn’t just a place you stay and work for a few months. It’s a place where like-minded adventurous people come together and experience the islands in a way that isn’t possible elsewhere. The Surfbreak team put something truly special together. They make you feel at home, and you will likely find them and your fellow roomies to be your Ohana (family). This doesn’t feel like an isolated hotel, but it does have all the perks of one. You have an efficient and clean setup to be productive when you’re doing your work, with a breathtaking views no-matter what direction your room faces. Beyond being productive, you need to relax and the space makes it easy to do that. From sharing a meal, taking in the views, doing some yoga before you surf, you’ll find it meets your needs. By the way, you can even just grab one of the surfboards and hit the waves! You truly won’t be disappointed and let’s face it, going anywhere alone isn’t as fun as when you make friends and have a community to enjoy it with. Book it, don’t give it second thoughts. I have so many great memories and friends as a result and you will too. You are in fantastic hands with RJ, Kelsey, and crew. 🤙 Mahalo
